What We Do

— Water & Sanitation
Access to clean water and proper sanitation is a basic human right, yet many communities in Malawi still struggle to meet these needs. Through our water projects, we drill boreholes and construct wells in water-scarce regions, providing safe drinking water close to home. We also build sanitation facilities, such as latrines, and run hygiene awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. To ensure long-term solutions, we install water filtration systems in schools and communities, giving children and families a reliable source of clean and safe water.

At Heart of Generous Works International, we believe education is the foundation of a brighter future. We invest in building and renovating schools, creating safe and welcoming classrooms where children can learn and grow. By providing scholarships and sponsorships, particularly for underprivileged girls, we open doors to equal opportunities that can change lives. Our teacher training programs equip educators with modern skills and resources, ensuring they can deliver quality education to every child. In addition, we are bridging the digital divide by introducing technology-based learning in rural areas, giving students access to the tools they need to thrive in the modern world

Beyond education and water, we are committed to improving the overall well-being of communities through social development initiatives. Our healthcare and nutrition programs bring essential services such as health camps, vaccination drives, and nutritional support to children and mothers who need them most. We also provide vocational training to women and youth, helping them acquire practical skills that open pathways to employment and self-reliance. To strengthen community resilience, we organize awareness programs that highlight the importance of education, sanitation, and health, fostering unity and a collective drive for sustainable development.

Recent Activities

—Gumulira village water restoration
With funding from RIAS, and in partnership with Stichting Heart of Generous Works International, PDI facilitated the restoration of Gumulira reticulated water supply facility in Lilongwe North. In order to maximize the benefits of safe water supply, the project also promoted adoption of adequate sanitation and hygiene in communities through provision of improved latrines and encouraged the use of hand washing facilities. The project included capacity building of the facility’s local management committee.

— Empowering Nkhotakota Through WASH
Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI), in partnership from Stichting Heart of Generous Works International, has significantly advanced rural community resilience and public health across Nkhotakota District through comprehensive, climate-smart WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) infrastructure and socio-economic empowerment interventions. In Chapota Village within TA Kanyenda, the partnership ensured reliable access to safe drinking water by constructing key water points—including both standard community boreholes and solar-powered water systems—drastically improving local daily water security. At Mtoso Health Centre, infrastructure was dramatically upgraded with inclusive latrine blocks, dedicated washroom facilities, a solar-powered borehole, and a specialised placenta pit to enforce sterile infection-prevention and maternal care standards.
